| (in English) | CombNET-III is an improved version of CombNET-II, which was developed to solve large-scale classification problems. CombNET-III brought improvements on recognition precision, but with the drawback of a higher computational complexity in recognition, which is directly proportional to the number of features. The fine classification in CombNET-III is performed by the expert classifiers (branch networks), corresponding to clusters divided by the gating network (stem network). As the clusters were divided by similarity, the categories inside each cluster present many features in common. Those common features are unnecessary and can be eliminated. We propose an independent feature selection procedure using Fisher's criterion. Experimental results show that not only the computational complexity was successfully reduced but also the classification accuracy was improved. | |
