Receptive fields of transcallosally connected neurons in the early visual cortex.

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In spite of fact that visual information in the left and right visual fields are received by separate cortical hemispheres, we are able to obtain a completely seamless perception of the world. It is assumed that this is because the visual cortex stitches together visual information of both hemi-fields via corpus callosum. To investigate the role of early visual neurons for binding left and right hemi-fields, we characterized the receptive field properties of neurons recorded simultaneously across the hemispheres using a reverse correlation method. We found that sub-regions of the paired neurons show various response polarities, where the overlaps were observed not only for ON-ON or OFF-OFF, but also for ON-OFF combinations.
