A Study of Color Removal Method Based on Signed Color Distance

(in English) In HDTV standard, to convert a color image into a monochrome one, the luminance component of the pixel has been used for the gray level representation of the monochrome image. However, saliencies of the image embedded only in the chrominance components are disappeared completely.
To cope with this problem, A.A. Gooch et al. has proposed the salience-preserving color removal method called ``Color2Gray.'' In this report, Color2Gray is analyzed mathematically and revealed its conversion performance, firstly. Then, fast Color2Gray algorithm is proposed by use of its mathematical property. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by the some experiments.
