Development of a motion capture system for hands by using 8 receivers and a calculation method for finger model

(in English) A magnetic motion capture system had been developed for the measurement of the delicate movements of hands. Generally, 3 receivers were used for each finger and 1 for the palm to measure the movements of a hand. As a result, a total of 16 receivers were needed for the measurements. However, collisions with receivers might appear through measurements which might limit the free movements of hands. In this research, the numbers of receivers were reduced to 8 instead of 16 to capture the hand’s movements. We have developed a calculation method to locate the position and orientation of finger bones. The calculated virtual bones’ data were used to reproduce the movements of hands with animation.
