Improvement to Reference Signal used in Adaptive Filters for Periodic Noise Reduction

(in English) Biological signals such as electroencephalogram(EEG),electroretinogram(ERG), electromyogram(EMG) or electrocardiogram(ECG) are contaminated by large power-line interference. In spite of modern high performance instrumentation amplifiers, there are many cases in which it is difficult to remove such periodic (alternative) noise entirely. Adaptive filters with noise reference signal input have potential to do such noise reduction. However in actual situations, there are many cases where such adaptive filter fails in removing periodic noise. In this paper, we point out that this problem causes from ill condition of correlation matrix of reference signal. Namely, the condition number(eigenvalue spread) increases with amplitude variety of harmonics in the periodic noise. Furthermore, we propose a method which transforms reference signal into impluse sequence signal in order to improve condition.
