Radiation characteristics of a short backfire antenna with Fresnel zone plates

(in English) A short backfire antenna with Fresnel zone plates (FZPs) is analyzed using the body-of-revolution finite-difference time-domain (BOR-FDTD) method. The use of the FZPs that have the effect of focusing the electromagnetic wave contributes to forming a sharp far-field with a subsequent high gain. By choosing the optimum configuration parameters of the antenna, a gain of greater than 19 dBi and a return loss of greater than 15 dB are maintaned over a wide frequency range of 10.7 to 12.7 GHz. To increase the gain at a design frequency of 11 GHz, the modification of the FZPs is investigated. As a result, a maximum gain of 21.6 dBi is obtained near the design frequency.
