Handshapes of the JSL type III signs

(in English) This paper discusses the well-formedness of the JSL type-III signs in terms of the handshape. We have had a native signer of JSL represent about 2300 type-III signs, which have the same location (neutral space) and the same movement (downward path movement) but have all possible combinations of handshapes on both hands. We have recorded those signs, shown them to seven native signers of JSL, and judged their well-formedness on a scale of one to five. We discuss what type of handshape plays a role in the well-formedness of the type-III signs.
