A measurement system suitable for the evaluation of handset MIMO antennas in a microcell radio propagation environment has been proposed. The system has a unique feature such that power angular spectrum can be varied in accordance with incident waves coming from plural spatial or angular clusters surrounding a handset antenna. A number of significant parameters for evaluating handset MIMO antennas, such as an XPR and Doppler frequency (moving velocity of a handset), can be settled and varied with the inclusion of electromagnetic effects of a human operator. In the first step, the correlation of quasi dipole array antennas with a separation of a half-wavelength was measured. Furthermore the eigenvalue and MIMO channel capacity were evaluated when an angular spread of incident waves was reduced. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed system for the assessment of handset MIMO antennas in a promising usage scenario, such as cellular MIMO operating in a street microcell environment. |
