An analysis of radio propagation characteristics using ray-tracing techniques on an outdoor propagation experiment

(in English) This paper presents radio propagation characteristics at 2.4 GHz in a street micro-cell environment calculated using a three-dimensional ray-tracing method in order to clarify an urban propagation mechanism for the next-generation cellular radio. In the first step, we confirmed the validity of the ray-tracing calculation by comparison with experimental results in a non line-of-sight (NLOS) situation in an urban area in Aalborg, Denmark. In the second step, we investigated an angle of arraival (AOA) of incoming waves at a mobile station with a 4-dipole liner array in both the azimuth and the elevation planes. From the calculation, we find that in a street micro-cell environment a lot of significant waves were in the front of and behind the mobile station along the direction of the street, and in an open space in a NLOS case the multipath components can be grouped together to clusters of the incoming waves.
