Sliced microstrip line resonator (MSLR) filters were designed and fabricated using epitaxial NbN thin films for use as high-power transmit filters in mobile communication systems. Frequency responses and power handling capability of the sliced MSLR filter were compared with that of the non-sliced MSLR filter. From the characterization of the crystallinity, critical temperature, and surface resistance, the NbN thin films were fabricated by a reactive DC magnetron sputtering on MgO(100) substrates, which were enough to use the filters. The frequency responses of the 3-pole sliced and non-sliced MSLR filters were nearly agree with designed responses. The power handling capability of the 3-pole sliced MSLR filter was approximately 2.5 dBm larger than that of the 3-pole non-sliced MSLR filter. This result indicates that the slices of the resonators were one of effective approach to improve the power handling capability. |
