An Example practical Use of Social Networking Service in University

(in English) A social networking service (SNS) is a web site of community type which provides a collection of services for users to interact each other. Recently, a certain number of organizations such as companies, laboratories and universities use in-house SNS. On the other hand, many universities adopt course management systems (CMS) to enhance and support student learning. While CMS supports learning activities directly, SNS has possibilities of supporting learning activities indirectly. Based on the idea, we constructed SNS within Utsunomiya campus of Teikyo university and have used it for a year. The results of analyzing every messages posted, some effective instances for supporting learning activities and campus life were observed.
