An Unsupervised Design Method for Weighted Median Filters Using Genetic Algorithm

(in English) Estimation of a suitable window shape and appropriate weights in weighted median filters is one of important problems. Hitherto, an unsupervised design method for the filters has been proposed. In this method, a simulated annealing is applied to design the optimal filter for texture images corrupted by impulse noise, and it has been shown to perform as equally well as a supervised technique. In this paper, we apply a genetic algorithm and adopt Rank-Ordered Logarithmic Difference (ROLD) statistics as objective function to design a weighted median filter. Through experiments, it was shown that our new approach outperformed compared to conventional methods.
