A Novel Coupled-Line Forward Coupler using Composite Right-/Left-Handed Transmission Lines

(in English) Various coupled-line backward couplers using composite right-/left-handed transmission lines (CRLH TLs) have been previously reported. In this paper, a CRLH coupled-line forward coupler is presented. The CRLH TLs in the forward coupler are designed to have different phase constants of the even/odd modes in the left-handed transmission band because forward coupling depends on phase-constant difference between the even/odd modes. The CRLH forward coupler with 10dB coupling is simulated and experimentally demonstrated. It is about one-third the size of the conventional right-handed forward coupler with the same coupling. The experimental results correspond with the simulated results.
