Two methods to evaluate the intermodulation distortion (IMD) of a ferrite disc are proposed. The first one is an evaluation based on the higher harmonics generating efficiency and the second one is an evaluation by the two-tone method. The difficulty to apply an intense RF magnetic field to the ferrite was solved by using a strip line resonator. Test fixtures operating at 2 GHz band were designed and assembled based on this concept. The IMD data obtained from the test fixtures are presented and it was confirmed that a uniform magnetic field in the ferrite brought a reduction in IMD in circulators as well as an increase in power handling capability. |
