We have developed 160 Gbit/s/port optical packet switch (OPS) prototype based on multiple optical label processing and optical buffering to improve the routing performance at network core nodes. In addition, we have developed interface devices (called as 10Gigabit-Ethernet (10GbE) / optical-packet (OP) converters) to connect ultra-high-speed optical packet switch (OPS) networks and current networks based on Internet protocol (IP) (e.g., Ethernet) at edge nodes of networks. In this paper, we demonstrate 64 km field transmission and switching of 160 (16 wavelength x 10) Gbit/s WDM-based optical packets by using 10GbE/OP converters, OPS prototype based on multiple optical label processing, and burst-mode EDFA. We achieve error-free operation with a packet-loss-rate below 1E-6 and a bit-error-rate below 1E-9. |
