In IP networks without QoS guarantee, terminals need to control the transmission rate to avoid network congestion. There are a lot of rate control methods in real-time multimedia transmission. However it is difficult to control the transmission rate without packet loss. In this report we propose a new method to control the transmission rate without media packet loss. Our proposed method uses FEC (Foward Error Correction) and control only FEC rate. The media rate is at a constant value and lost media packets are recovered by FEC data. Our method can determine the available transmission rate and simultaneously transmit media data reliably. |
