A dual-mode band pass filters (BPF) applying 1λ ring resonator is well known as an equivalent 2nd order BPF with one resonator. In this report, we proposed a dual-mode BPF applying 2λ ring resonator and λ/4 open-stubs, which uses higher-order resonances. The BPF is configured by a 2λ ring resonator and two λ/4 open-stubs, which couples 2nd odd-mode and 3rd even-mode resonances at the pass-band to sharpen in-band characteristics. From this property, this filter is predictably-effective at millimeter-wave frequencies, where unloaded quality factor of resonators are relatively small and so that sharp characteristics is hard to be obtained. A 60GHz prototype BPF is fabricated applying low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC), and the measured results showed pass-band characteristics with 1.7 % fractional bandwidth and 5 dB insertion loss at 60GHz, and relatively sharp characteristics with 20 dB attenuations at 3 % lower frequency to the pass-band. |
