3D filtering and region growing method for precise bone segmentation applied to head and neck cone-beam CT images

(in English) Cone-beam CT imaging applied to head and neck region is widely used with a focus on dental medicine. Image noise is relatively high due to lower doses to patients. So we examined the effectiveness of various image processing procedures using three-dimensional spatial filtering. The evaluation of image quality was carried out with MPR (Multi Planar Reconstruction) slices. Filters examined were Average, Gaussian, Median and Sobel filters, and 3D Non-linear Diffusion filtering was also tested. Moreover, we tried the bone segmentation by the 3D region growing method, which is applicable by reflecting three-dimensional links of anatomical bone structures.
