Effects of Room Reverberation on Robust and Accurate F0 Estimates

(in English) This paper discusses the major influences of room acoustic effects on estimates of the fundamental frequency (F_0) of speech. Room acoustic measures and their effects are described in detail. We briefly summarized the dependence of the speaker to microphone distance (SMD) combined with reverberation time T_{60}. Evaluation experiments were conducted to find the dependencies of room acoustics and their effects. In contrast to most studies that deal with reverberation, this paper proves that T_{60} cannot be the only measure used to describe the behavior of systems in reverberant environments. The experiments were an extension of our previous studies on the dependence of room acoustics and their effects on artificial reverberation, where twelve methods of estimating F_0 were compared. Here, two further methods are added and the systematic use of real measured room impulse responses (RIRs) are applied. Apart from SMD dependence, our other main contributions are experiments on different distorting effects on high and low F_0. The results revealed that male F_0 estimates are significantly more sensitive to reverberation than those for females.
