(in English) Firstly my Plenary Talk at ECOC2001 “User-friendly 1000-wavelength-networks” is reviewed under the light of today’s actual progress. One of the differences from the roadmap in 2001 is the progress of digital signal processing applied both in optical and electrical domains. This progress is remarkable not only inside of optical communication systems but also in IPTV, which became one of the killer services today, and broadband access networks. After a brief discussion about the progress of optical communication and digital signal processing applied to transmission and video processing systems, I will introduce IPTV service over ADSL in France, which is enjoyed by 3 Million people today. The concept “Any time, any where and any screen” and various strategies by France Telecom to attract subscribers will be also introduced. Finally the next steps toward FTTH will be touched upon.
