Contact currents flow from/into a human body, when touching an object such as a metal structure with a different electric potential due to electromagnetic field exposure, which should stimulate muscle and peripheral nerves. In this context, numerical analyses of electric fields induced by contact currents in a human body have been performed so far, while the effectiveness of computational methods for transient contact currents has not well been investigated. With a Japanese adult male model developed by National institute of Information and Communication Technology (NICT), we previously simulated the induced electric field in a human body due to contact currents by the FDTD method. In the present study, to further validate our FDTD modeling, we compared simulation of contact currents and the resultant body surface magnetic fields with measurement, and then calculated spatial distribution of induced peak electric fields and specific energy absorption (SA). As a result, we found that calculated and measured contact currents as well as body surface magnetic fields are in reasonable agreement, which shows the validity of our FDTD modeling. It was also found that 99 percentile electric fields are large in order of skin, fat, bone and muscle, while they are significantly lower in the central nerve system including brains compared to those in skin tissue, and that 70% of whole body SA was concentrated on the right arm touching a metallic object. |
