Proposal and Basic Studey of an Electromagnetically Fed Planar-Type Yagi-Uda Sector Antenna

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We propose planar-type antenna that is made of stacked Yagi-Uda antennas in different directions. Each dipole is loaded with a switch that switches short-circuit and an inductor loading, whose inductance is set to the value with which the dipole becomes electrically invisible. The dipoles of feeding power Yagi-Uda antenna are switched to the short circuit to make a beam, and the other dipoles are switched to the inductor loadings to diminish their electric influence. Each feed element of Yagi-Uda antennas is electromagnetically fed by a common feeding probe. Moreover, the feeding power dipole is switched by transforming feed dipoles electrically invisible except one. The calculation using the moment method shows that the angle of 90° can be covered with the working gain of about 11 dBi or more by four sector beams.
