This paper examines the validity of a simple water area classification method based on POLSAR image analysis, by considering the result of the FDTD polarimetric scattering analysis for a simplified water-emergent boundary model. The present classification method, which was proposed in our previous study, is realized by extracting the strong double-bounce scattering components generated from the water-emergent boundary when the water level is relatively high. However, it has not been cleared whether or not the polarimetric scattering feature is dependent on the variation of the emergent's biomass and/or the radar illumination angle. In this paper, by executing the FDTD analysis for the simplified water-emergent boundary model, we examine the polarimetric scattering echanism around the wetland boundary regions. It is resultantly confirmed from the FDTD result that the strong double-bounce scattering can be observed even when the biomass and illumination angle are both small. |
