The final goal of our study is building an effective tool of thought for considering both users and use situations in the design process for assistive devices, systems or services for people with disabilities. In this report, we focus mainly on the situation for travel of the blind. We first show certain results of our previous travel experiments with blind individuals, and next show the research issue for travel assistance for the blind from the viewpoint of the tool of thought. We consider the features of spatial recognition and way finding of the blind travellers with the use the phenomenological concept. We also compare travel behaviours of the blind with that of usual sighted people. In the last part of the report we deals with a method how sighted people recognise the behaviour of the blind travellers, and show the remaining issues to be considered further. |
