Characteristics of Power-Line Channels on the 440V Line of Container ships

(in English) In the container ship, which is a kind of the cargo-carrying vessel, the reefer container is monitored by the power line communication (PLC) on the three-phase 440V electric power line. It uses the band 55kHz-440kHz. However, in recent years it often happens that machinery equipped with the inverter is installed in the ship. Therefore the PLC construction of a system using this frequency band is difficult. Then, the authors studies whether a steadier PLC system can be achieved by using the frequencies in the range of 2MHz or higher. In this paper, the measurement results of the transmission characteristic, the noise characteristic, and unintentional radiation that comes out of a power line in three-phase 440V system of the container ship are shown. These results show that in contrast to what has been done previously, it is possible to perform steady communication using the band 2MHz-20MHz in the differential mode.
