MIMO-OFDM receivers, which are capable of increasing the coverage and
required to attenuate the transmission power per antenna, are to receive training signals, such as pilot signals or preamble signals, for channel estimation in poor SNR conditions. This results in the degradation of the channel estimation accuracy, and causes the poor receiver performance.
When we use a long preamble as the training signal, a time domain channel estimator which estimates an impulse response of the channel by the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) is an attractive approach because
we can effectively use the long preamble with limited length. However, expected channel estimation performance cannot be obtained when the condition number of the generalized inverse matrix in the ML algorithm is large. In order to overcome the difficulty, it is effective to apply a long preamble structure with a small condition number for the transmitters
and a singular-value truncation scheme for the receivers. In this report, we evaluate these approaches quantitatively and consider a methodology to obtain superior channel estimators. |
