An Improvement of Fast Color Removal Method Based on Signed Color Distance

(in English) In the conventional color removal methods, only the luminance components of the color image are extracted and are used to represent the monochrome image. However, saliencies of the image embedded only in the chrominance components are disappeared completely in such a conventional color removal method. To cope with this problem, A.A. Gooch et al. have proposed the salience-preserving color removal method called ``Color2Gray.'' Though Color2Gray produces excellent monochrome images, its computational cost is tremendous. In previous report, we proposed the fast Color2Gray which works in very short time. In this report, we propose the method reducing the deterioration of the image quality appeared in the previous fast Color2Gray. Moreover, new methods for computational cost reduction are also proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is verified by the some experiments.
