Personal computers are indispensable for persons with severe motor disabilities to ensure communication and social participation. For pointer operation, they usually use a scanning system together with a single switch as an alternative to ordinary mouse. There are several types of scanning method, necessitating individual users to make a time-consuming selection. Then we developed a support system to predict an optimum scanning method from data of user’s response time from a visual stimulation to the beginning of a body movement. Experiments demonstrated that optimum scanning methods predicted by the system coincided with actual ones with respect to total operation time as well as the number of operations. |
