A Study on multilevel modulation considering nonlinear power amplifier characteristic
A. T. Le, Kiyomichi Araki (Titech) RCS2008-69
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Adaptive modulation \& coding (AMC) increases the throughput of a wireless network by adjusting modulation, power, coding to the channel status. By sending more information in good conditions (good SNR) and less information in bad conditions
(bad SNR), AMC can provide high speed stabilized communication. On the other hand, improvement on power efficiency has lately attracted considerable attention, and there are demands for full utilizing power sources without any waste. In the transmitter, power amplifier consumes most of the power; our study researches performance of various modulation type considering power amplifier characteristic. We use Rapp's model for modelling non-linear characteristic of power amplifier, evaluate performance of conventional multi-level modulation such as PSK, QAM. Furthermore, we research some constellation diagram types of multi-level modulation and propose multiple concentric circles constellation which matches non-linear characteristic of power amplifier.
