This report presents on a ring-type pressure-wavelength convertor for FBG sensors and propose its applications to water level gage for disaster security monitoring. These sensor technologies are paid great attentions as an importance for keeping human life safety from disasters caused by the earth worming or large scale climate changes, expecting optical methods much more advantageous than electrical ones because it is free from electric noise of sunder discharge that often disturbs electric sensing systems. Water pressure provides ring distortion detectable by FBG fixed around it to convert the mechanical distortion to the optical wavelength of reflection from FBG. As a fact that the distortion of the ring fabricated with known parameters can be precisely evaluated may allow us to design any FBG sensing system with high accuracy, it implies that it may be invaluable as a reference of other FBG devices. A trial product of water level gage applying the ring-formed FBG convertor has been successfully made and its test results almost satisfactory our requirements for monitoring flooding water. |
