A Study on PAPR Reduction for Single-and Multi- Carrier Communication Systems

(in English) This paper proposes a clipping based PAPR reduction scheme for dynamic spectrum control (DSC) employed single
carrier (SC) and multi-carrier (MC) transmission schemes. In the proposed scheme, clipping is conducted not in the RF
band but in the digital sample sequence domain in the baseband thereby the out-of-band radiation due to clipping is converted
to the intra-band interference by the cyclic-shift nature of the spectrum in the framed digital sample sequence domain. This paper also conducts comparative performance evaluation on PAPR, link quality and spurious radiation for both SC and MC transmission schemes in the DSC applied cases. Computer simulation and theoretical analysis confirm that the proposed clipping scheme can effectively suppress PAPR while keeping the link quality degradation negligibly small in both SC and MC cases when a powerful channel coding like turbo coding is applied. Moreover, SC is confirmed to radiate less spurious to the non-used spectrum than the MC when spectrum grouping is applied to the spectrum mapping process in the DSC.
