SWNT is an attractive saturable absorber material as it has ultrahigh-speed nonlinear response speed faster than 1 ps. In this paper, we demonstrate a femtosecond soliton pulse generation from a passively mode-locked fiber laser incorporating a SWNT polymer saturable absorber. We first optimized the cavity configuration as a soliton laser, and then fabricated two new types of SWNT-doped polymer materials. First, we dispersed SWNTs into poly carbonate (PC), which is highly heat resistant polymer and expected to enhance the laser output power. The other is a fiber-connector-type, compact and low-loss saturable absorber in which SWNT/P3HT (poly-3-hexylthiophene) is coated on the end of a fiber connector. By using these SWNT saturable absorbers, 115 and 145 fs soliton pulses were successfully generated at 39.1 and 51.0 MHz, respectively. |
