With rapid development of RFID technology, RFID devices are being applied widely in various fields, from logistics, gate inspection, to cash transactions. In the ear future, all goods flow, people flow and money flow could be monitored under RFID devices, thus a huge amount of on-line RFID event streams are generated continually and need to be processed in real-time. By processing and analyzing those RFID data, many composite events and hiding events can be discovered, and many advanced applications such as emergency event detection and pre-warning can be supported. Due to the new features of RFID data in temporal and dynamics, uncertainty and heterogeneity, massive data amount, semantic complexity, the existing technology like active database and data stream management are hard to support RFID event processing effectively and efficiently.
The paper first analyzes the characteristics of RFID event stream, makes a survey of the state-of-art technology over RFID event processing, and explores the challenge problems to be solved urgently. The research issues focus on RFID event modeling, RFID data cleaning, event detection algorithm, query optimization, real-time task scheduling, complex event processing, and system design. Finally, a high-performance real-time event stream processing system is presented, and related key modules are introduced. |
