This system is measurement of metal plate thickness for pipe wall in plant, nuclear or thermal power station, and consists of EMAT (Electoromagnetic acoustic transducer) and optical fiber sensor. EMAT is composed of permanent magnet and an electric coil. EMAT generates Lorentz force and lets an ultrasonic wave propagate in a metal plate.Lorentz force create a mechanical force and generate an ultrasonic vibration. When a wavelength of ultrasonic became the integer double of the metal plate thickness, the resonance vibration occurs in metal plate. Optical fiber is attached on metal plate, and detects ultrasonic vibration. We confirmed that it was possible to measure precisely for various sizes thickness specimens and elbow plumbing shape sample having curvature side by using this technique. We produced the thermal resistance optical fiber sensor with heat-resistant resin, and confirmed that it was possible to measure thickness in the high temperature state of 200 degrees Celsius. |
