A Power Optimization Method for Quorum Systems

(in English) In this paper, we present a power optimization algorithm for quorum systems, more specifically for a general class of quorum systems called Crumbling walls [Peleg '95]. Our algorithm optimizes the strategies (i.e., probabilistic choice of a quorum) so that the capacity of every node in a given crumbling wall is not exceeded. However, due to a search space explosion, the linear programming method cannot be directly applied to the optimization process. In order to eliminate this explosion, our central idea is to limit the search space to a subset made out of a special type of strategies prepared to include an optimal solution. Consequently, our algorithm finds a solution in O(d^2) time where d is the number of rows in a given Crumbling wall.
