Out-of-head sound localization with adaptive inverse filtering system of ECTF using DSP

(in English) Using stereo earphones to implement out-of-head sound localization (OHL) with high presence needs equalization with the inverse Ear Canal Transfer Function (ECTF). However, the characteristics of ECTF vary with the type of earphones, and repetitions of earphone mounting and demounting operations. Therefore, an adaptive signal processing technology is needed to equalize the ECTF of an OHL system in real time. In this study, we examine the estimation error and convergence time of the coefficients of a DSP-based adaptive inverse filter that realizes the ECTF. We confirm that the error is less than -10dB, and the estimation time of 0.3 seconds; these values are good enough to construct a practical ECTF inverse filter.
