Multicasting of voice and video through an ad hoc network or a wireless mesh network is recognized as a promising service. As packets are, generally, sent by broadcasting without ACK(Acknowledgement) at data link layer, a packet loss at data link layer directly causes the data loss at application layer. The authors applied FEC(Forward Error Correction) , whish is used to recover the packet loss, to ODMRP(On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol), a multicast protocol for wireless mesh networks. This article proposes the following two new functions based on the FEC applied multicast. First function is that receivers reply the quality of received data to the sender. Second function is the heightening of recovery ratio for key frames in video streaming. The effectiveness of the proposed functions are proved using real nodes in an in-house environment. |
