Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The present study examined the contribution of spatial and temporal information of scanned surfaces on human cutaneous perception of length. The first experiment revealed that subjects' estimates of stimulus distance increased with decreasing stimulus velocity. To account for this phenomena, we examined the ability to estimate the velocity of scanned surfaces (experiment 2). The results indicated that subjects' magnitude estimates of scanned velocity increased linearly across the range of speeds tested. Then we examined the effects of scanning velocity on subjects' estimates of duration (experiment 3). The results revealed that subjects' estimates of duration increased with increasing stimulus velocity. The results of the three experiments indicated that cutaneous perception of length is not computed as simple equation: velocity $\times$ duration.
