Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In case of IP-based real-time media, the recovery from losses due to congestion in network, needs to be made within a short range of delay constraint, and it happens to be the key factor determining the expected QoE (Quality of Experience) for media. One basic mechanism available for error control is ARQ, that provides loss recovery by retransmission of lost packets.
Our goal is to find an optimal mechanism for real-time media using this retransmission approach that works in a receiver-oriented way and is based on the prediction of losses. In the scheme we propose here, the receiver sends retransmission requests for potential lost packets considering the network conditions and delay budget. We focus on the time instant when receiver-end should request a retransmission. Given network conditions, we examine the impact of time instant on the achieved performance at Receiver-end. Theoretical analysis as well as simulations have been performed to quantify the gains possible using proposed approach. We finish this paper with directions for an optimal policy for practice.
