Internet global network topology estimation through round-trip time measurement using telephone line connections

(in English) The designs of global Internet services require the data on the Internet network topology. However, the data are rarely revealed to the public. This paper offers a method to estimate the global Internet topologies using telephone line connection to the Internet. The method is as flows: Round trip times are measured by sending packets between cities of the world. Then, Graphs are plotted of which horizontal axis is great-circle distance between the two cities and the vertical axis is the round-trip time. The topology is analyzed using the groups of the plots on the graph.
