Exponential evolution represented by the Moore's law in an LSI brings rapid change and development of the social infrastructures. These changes in social structure and market will continue. A workshop was held in Ishigaki Island by the committee of integrated circuits and devices in the institute of electronics, information and communication engineers in March 2008, where from the viewpoint of semiconductor technology, we have discussed who creates what as a global strategy by utilizing the Japan’s characteristics on the basis of the worldwide changes in technology and society and experience on the structure of the Japanese semiconductor industry.
In this panel, we will introduce how new concepts of “micro-cube chip” and “inch-fab” was created in the workshop and discuss the evolution of semiconductor devices with the predictions towards 2025. |
