| (in English) | The interest in car navigation devices with a large volume of map data in their hard disk drives has been increasing. A differential map update service, which distributes only the differences in map data by cell phone, reduces the amount of time needed to update the maps in the car navigation device. This service has been launched. However, the number of points of interest (POIs) is over 10 million making difficult to achieve both a conventional search function and an updating function. We suggest the hybrid POI database system to manage static POI data in the conventional data format and to manage only differential-map data in the relational database. We show that our system we suggested can perform both the conventional search function and updating function in our evaluative environment for car navigation devices. |
