Achieving accurate estimation of time of arrival (ToA) is crucial to precise UWB ranging performance. Threshold-based ToA estimation method is attractive because of its simplicity. In conventional threshold-based methods, a single value is optimized as universal threshold. We introduce a distance-dependent threshold-based method, which is postulated on the fact that power of direct path decrease as Tx-Rx distance increase. Consequently threshold value for detecting the direct path peak is a function of Tx-Rx distance. Ranging analysis of the measured data indicates that the performance of the proposed approach is superior to the fixed threshold. |
