In multi-hop networks, the achievable end-to-end throughput is limited to the hop with the smallest data rate in a route. Cooperative multi-hop networks using multiple stations at each hop for transmit diversity are attractive way to combat the bottleneck problem. Since the number of receiving stations is subject to the data rate of the hop, higher data rate incurs the decrease in the number of transmitting stations at the next hop and result in degradation of the end-to-end throughput. Therefore, the data rate at each hop should be optimized in conjunction with that of other hops to maximize the end-to-end throughput. In this paper, the spectral efficiency of cooperative multi-hop networks with equal power transmission, transmit diversity and data rate optimization to maximize the end-to-end throughput is theoretically analyzed, by assuming the number of cooperative stations per hop is two. The effectiveness of multi-hop cooperative networks for the average and outage spectral efficiency is revealed. |
