Implementation and Performance Study of Proxy Mobile IPv6

(in English) Proxy Mobile IPv6 protocol has recently been finalized in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a network-based local mobility management protocol that does not require IPv6 mobile nodes to implement mobility management functions in their IP layers. Proxy Mobile IPv6 is a promising protocol because it can have applicability in diverse types of access networks such as mobile carriers’ cellular networks, emerging mobile WiMax networks, and vehicular networks, where simple IPv6 nodes get mobility support from the networks. However, the protocol is still in the development and experimental phase and many issues are yet to be resolved. In this report, we share our implementation experience among the network research community and discuss the impact of design choices on the network performance.
