A Wavelength Assignment Scheme for Avoiding Wavelength Converter Starvation in Wavelength Switched Optical Networks

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Using all-optical wavelength converters makes effective wavelength-assignment management of wavelength paths in wavelength switched optical networks. However, it is not realistic that all-optical cross-connects have enough wavelength converters because of its cost and physical Performance. Alternatively, wavelength-converter wast increases the network cost and gives negative impact to the blocking probability if the unused wavelength converters are limited. Simulation with limited amount of wavelength converters shows that proposed method decreases wavelength converter utilization and good performance of blocking probability.
