Conventionally a strategy of reducing impedance of DC power distribution network (PDN) for LSI has been adopted to improve the power integrity. However, when the high-frequency component of LSI operation current is supplied from bypass capacitors on the PCB, it can cause EMI increase. To decouple such high-frequency current and reduce EMI, we introduced decoupling inductors on the PDN in combination with bypass capacitors located on chip, package and PCB to improve the power integrity. In this report, we propose a design scheme of the decoupling circuit with an example that confines the high-frequency component above 600~MHz in the package, above 100~MHz in the decoupling circuit on PCB, and DC supply current only contains the frequencies lower than 1~MHz. |
