Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Resonance frequency of a flexural vibrating rod is lowered by immersing the rod into fluid because of the mass effect of the fluid acting on the rod. The authors have previously proposed to utilize the phenomena for liquid level meter. This report presents the development of electronic circuits for extracting the motional current and tracking the resonance frequency using the PLL (phase-locked-loop) scheme. The working principle of measuring liquid level, practical configuration of the vibrating rod, PLL circuit and the performance test as a level meter are described in this report. The rod is mounted in a screw to install into a shielded liquid gas cylinder. Two rectangular piezoelectric elements are bonded at the one end of the rod, which is located outside the cylinder and excite the flexural vibration in the rod via the screw. The phase of the motional current detected by a bridge circuit using an operation amplifier is compared with the driving voltage so that the frequency of a voltage-controlled oscillator may track the resonance of the rod. The measurement characteristics of the stainless steel rods of 475 mm in length and 6 mm in diameter are evaluated. Error was 1-2% from the linear line.
