Biological effects due to whole-body electromagnetic wave exposure can be caused by body core temperature-rise. According to safety guidelines, therefore, whole-body average specific absorption rate (SAR) is being commonly used as a metric for human protection. The threshold level causing thermal effects was determined based on animal experimental results. In order to investigate the relationship between whole-body average SARs and body core temperature-rises, we previously calculated SARs and the temperature-rises in rabbits for electromagnetic wave exposure. However, theoretical solution or a closed formula for predicting body core temperature-rise is essential for further understanding. In the present study, we derived a formula for simply predicting body core temperature-rise in human for whole-body electromagnetic wave exposure. As a result, we found that body-core temperature-rises are in reasonable agreement between the results from the formula and FDTD computation. In comparison with the FDTD computation in different human models for various whole-body average SARs, we demonstrated main factors affecting the body core temperature-rise together with an applicable range of the formula. |
