Gradient Based Two Dimensional Path Following for Kernel Machines

(in English) The performance of the Kernel Machines depends on its hyperparameters such as a regularization parameter.
Since the proper values of hyperparamters usually unknown beforehand, it is necessary to estimate generalization error
under various values of hyperparameters. Path following algorithm can reduce computational cost of this procedure
by tracing the change of parameters when the value of hyperparameter changes.
However, conventional path following algorithm considers that the only one hyperparameter changes at once.
We extend path following algorithm to be able to trace parameters when the two hyperparameters change simultaneously.
In this paper, we focus on the two hyperparameters of Support Vector Regression: the regularization parameter and the thickness of insensitive zone.
We derive piecewise linearity of the path of these two hyperparameters and propose gradient based path following method.
